After lunch Mother moved to Cattistock Lodge

Hung Uncle Caldwell’s portrait on landing. Mended screens

Tab Pope still ill. Violet and Ros have steady colds, and her cat has caught it as well.

 

Tuesday 15^th November 1949

Shirt and tie from English – Paid bills – 2 gallons paraffin from Shergold.

Ordered 2 (sacks?) potatoes and load manure from Meech.

Dewdney clearing up leaves. Walked round to Lodge after tea.

 

Wednesday 16^th November 1949

A.m. Mended door of potting shed.

P.m. Fixing picture in Mother’s room at the Lodge.

 

Thursday 17^th November 1949

Acknowledgement from Norton & Stratton.

Fine day after yesterday’s gale and incessant rain.

Ros at Lodge doing maid – Brown and his wife left.)

Dined at Lodge. Diana and Tab both ill which was a pity.

Ros at Lodge. Things a bit hectic there.

Fine day. Letter from Jimmy which I answered.

Death of Mrs.Heath-Caldwell

The death has occurred at Cattistock Lodge, Cattistock, Dorset, of Mrs Constance Mary Helsham Heath-Caldwell, widow of Major-General F.C.Heath-Caldwell, formerly of Linley Wood. Talke.
During their residence in the Talke district, Major-General and Mrs Heath-Caldwell gave liberal support to many religious, social and philanthropic institutions in the district. 

She was President of the Kidsgrove Division of the Soldier's Sailor's and Airmen's Families Association from its formation in 1923 until she left the district 26 years ago. (8, Ed)

There will be a service for Mrs.Heath-Caldwell and interment of ashes at Talke Church on Tuesday next at 3pm.

Dear Ma and Pa, 

Thank you very much for your letters, the eider down for Hilary Diana and for the income tax rebate form copies (?) or do I have to sign them or something? Anyway, I’ll sign them and send them back to you. 

I was surprised G.M. (Constance M.H. Heath-Caldwell) left so much. I had rather imagined that nearly all had gone west by now on odds and ends.
